Bedshed takes Milan…what’s hot and what’s not in bedroom furniture
While fashion is something that we often think of in the context of clothes and shoes, trends in interior design and bedding furniture are equally seasonal. Here at Bedshed, we understand the importance of keeping our finger on the pulse in terms of what’s hot in the bedroom, which is why we attend some of the world’s best furniture shows in which franchisees join the Merchandise team in looking for exciting new trends.
Earlier this year, the Team travelled to Italy to attend the annual Milan Furniture Fair, Salone del Mobile. It’s the largest trade fair of its kind, exhibiting the latest in furniture and design from countries around the globe.
Here, our National Merchandise Manager, Les Sevel, shares the latest trends in bedroom furniture, and how our franchisees can take advantage.
1. Upholstered beds in woven fabric continue to dominate
Upholstered beds, whilst not a new trend, are back in an evolved and invigorated form. As the strongest trend in the market, fabric upholstery is featured in beautiful velvets, 3D brushed fabrics and plain or patterned cotton and linen finishes. New colours such as dusty pinks, petrol and mid blues were a prominent feature, acting as both primary and accent colours. Old favourites such as light greys and natural tones are still very much present.
Additionally, curved bedheads, upholstered headboards and slender legs, paired with natural timber frames, all highlight that this season is about texture and shape, an important tip to remember when it’s time for a visual merchandise revamp.
2. Bedding technology
Technological advancements to the traditionally sprung mattresses are proving to be a game changer this year, both abroad and locally. With the introduction of sleep tracking technology, customised comfort and optional adjustability, the desire for personalisation is a popular addition. This trend is reflected in our recent introduction of three exclusive mattresses by Kinsgdown – The Tradition, The Crown Imperial and The Body Motion, all of which have Sleep Trackers and Comfort Adjustable options, and is an exciting prospect for us to introduce to customers.
3. Size of the bed
It turns out that size does matter – when it comes to your bed, as we are seeing an increase in the demand for super king and king size sales in beds and mattresses. Our Bedshed franchisees have already responded to this by displaying more king beds on their floors and increasing the availability of super king linen and sheets. As customers are looking for luxury, the super king and kings are the perfect solution.
